  • Merry Christmas

Tue 19 Dec 2017 Mr Wells

We are coming to the end of a long term and the whole school community is looking forward

to a well-earned rest. The prospect of Christmas cheers us and lifts our spirits away from the cold, dark weather of the season… and it has certainly been an eventful year for us at school (with successful inspections by Ofsted and the Diocese – we have been popular this year)!

As we near the end of the Autumn Term and Christmas draws closer, it is inevitable that our minds start, albeit briefly, to drift away from the hard work of our day to day school business, to the festive period itself. Let us remind ourselves, whatever our beliefs, that this is one time of year when it is commonplace to find the spirit of human kindness alive and well.

Spiritually, we have been preparing the children for Christmas in our Collective Worship, reflections & RE lessons. In the coming days, we celebrate this holy season with our Key Stage 1 Nativity & Key Stage 2 Carol Service in St Peter’s Church.

Let us embrace this by ensuring that we enjoy ourselves safely but also take time to look out for those nearest and dearest to us and those less fortunate than ourselves. Being prepared to think of others is a particular strength of our school. This sense of community is, in essence, the true meaning of Christmas; and this sense of community is something that is very special about our school.

Thank you to everyone who has and continues to support our school and the children by giving up their time to help in school and out (our volunteers, our PTA, our Governing Body…) – you make a real difference and we are incredibly grateful and know how lucky we are. I have a quote in my office from Walt Disney that reads: ‘You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality’. The reality is that the learning experiences that have taken place this year could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from the staff, parents, governors and children. I am sure that you would like to join with me in thanking all of the staff and governors at Claypole Church of England Primary School for their continued, incredible hard work and tireless commitment to the children of the school during the year.

On behalf of everybody at our school, we wish you, your family and the children a holy and peaceful Christmas and every blessing for the New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday 3rd January 2018!

  • Pupil Parliament

    Tue 19 Dec 2017

Well done to all the children who prepared a speech and stood up in front of everyone yesterday in the hope of being voted to become a member of the school's Pupil Parliament.  We were really impressed with the number of children wishing to be involved (just under 50 children in KS2) and the quality of some of the children's speeches certainly made voting a difficult decision!

We have counted the votes (and counted them again) and we are pleased to announce the names of the children who received the most votes for their year group. The voting was so close in some year groups that we have ended up electing 1 more/1 less than anticipated in some year groups... ultimately giving us 12 representatives.

Our Pupil Parliament for 2018 is:

YEAR 6 representatives: Emmie Blatherwick; Elliot Gamble; Abbi-Lou Hill; Emily Francis.

YEAR 5 representatives: Theo Thompson; Denisa Pethoova; Henry Hodkinson.

YEAR 4 representatives: Dougie Blatherwick; Charlie Cooper.

YEAR 3 representatives: Bobby Osbourne; Sophie Mayfield; Minnie Marlow.

Well done children: I look forward to working with you closely in the new year.

  • Pupil Parliament Election

    Mon 11 Dec 2017

Our Pupil Parliament will be a well-respected body within the school and consist of pupils between Years 3 and 6 (with each of these classes having three representatives who are elected by their peers).

Children involved in our Pupil Parliament will meet regularly to discuss topics, issues and initiatives that affect them and their learning environment. As part of their responsibilities, the team will work closely with our Senior Leadership Team, organise their own meetings, decide on an agenda, share new ideas and vote on a number of school-related issues.

There will be four committees within the Pupil Parliament: Teaching for Learning Committee; Health & Fitness Committee; Collective Worship & Christian Values Committee & Community Committee.

Speeches and elections will be held during the afternoon on Monday 18th December where children will be invited to present their speech and explain why their peers should vote for them to represent them on our Pupil Parliament. Children, if you are interested, start preparing your speech for Monday. There will be a sign-up sheet near the current ‘School Council’ display (so that voting forms can be made). Deadline for signing up is Friday 15th December.

We are a small, friendly and thriving village school in an attractive, rural location. We have small class sizes where children are taught in single-aged year groups. This is a school where children and adults have fun, work hard and achieve our very best. We love sports, art and music and produce fantastic work. You will hear much laughter and see smiling faces when you visit us, but you will also see good quality work in every part of our school. All schools have their own distinctive ‘feel’ which makes each one unique. We believe that the ‘special feel’ at Claypole Church of England Primary School is to do with our caring, friendly atmosphere. Our school continues to develop in many exciting ways, providing high expectations and an even more enriching experiences for our children.
