Today, we were very lucky to have been visited by British athlete and adventurer Sarah Outen MBE. Amongst many other records, Sarah was the first and the youngest woman to row solo across the Indian Ocean and also the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Alaska. On 3rd November 2015, she returned to London having travelled around the world under her own power (by rowing boat, kayak and bicycle). Sarah showed us video, photographs and stories of her solo adventure around the world. The children also had the opportunity to ask her questions about her adventures, her preparation and her determination and courage.
Sarah will be presenting an extended speech at Walton Girls High School in Grantham at 6:30 p.m. on Monday 29th February - £5 tickets are sold on the door at the High School.
On Friday 4th March, we will be celebrating WORLD BOOK DAY (a day later than advertised because we are being visited by a poet who will also work with some of our children during the day). We will be inviting and encouraging children to come to school dressed up as a book character.

Swimming pools can be dangerous places, so we teach children to swim. Crossing the road can be dangerous, so we teach children road safety skills. We do not stop young people from swimming or crossing roads! So too, we must teach them how to be safe online so they can have fun, enjoy creative aspects and benefit from the learning opportunities. We must, however, still be aware of danger signs so we can deal with them.
On Tuesday 9th February, we are promoting Safer Internet Day in school, an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. Our website (under the menu: Parents….E-Safety) has a lot of information about E-Safety (including internet awareness and video game guides/ratings) which we hope is useful.

On Shrove Tuesday (also Tuesday 9th February) 11:00 a.m. on the tennis courts.
We are delighted to announce that the Claypole Church of England Primary School Annual Pancake Race is taking place on Tuesday 9th February at 11:00 on the hard court/tennis court outside of school (weather permitted of course). We would like to invite the children to bring a pancake and a frying pan into school (in a named bag) to take part in the races on Tuesday… with special prizes for the winners! We would also suggest that the children come to school with trainers on that day too, to save changing shoes during a very busy day. We would also like to invite any parents/carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles… to watch our Pancake Races too.
