Year 1: Kingfishers

Welcome to the Kingfishers!

Spring Term 2026 - London: Bright Lights, Big City

This term our theme is Bright Lights, Big City and we will be exploring London. In history, we will learn about The Great Fire of London and ask, Was London better before or after The Great Fire?

We will have a very special memorable experience to celebrate our theme: a very special royal invitation has been delivered to the classroom: afternoon tea with His Majesty the King! The classroom will be turned into a royal space, complete with posh tablecloths, cups and saucers, and dainty treats.  We will make sure everyone knows how to bow or curtsy as they meet the King. And no slurping please!

Please have a look at our Knowledge Organisers to find out more about our learning this Spring Term.

Key Class Information Spring 2026

PE days – We have 2 PE sessions each week – Team building on Monday mornings and Invasion skills on Thursday afternoons.

PE Kit – Children will be expected to have their PE/Sport kits in school. Our PE/Sport uniform is: navy or white T-shirt, navy shorts… with navy tracksuits for the colder days. Plimsolls for indoor PE and trainers for outdoors. PE kits should be kept in school and will be sent home for a wash each half-term. Long hair needs to be tied back and earrings will need to be removed or covered with a plaster.

Reading – Children need to read their RWI phonics at home every day with an adult for 10–20 minutes. We aim to change reading books weekly (Fridays), but please bring your book each day.

Gentle reminders - Please make sure long hair is tied up every day and only water in water bottles. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office and I will be able to sort out any worries that you might have.
