Falcons

Welcome to the Falcons!

Summer Term 2022

This term our theme is Our Powerful Oceans and we will be asking and answering the question "how predictable are the oceans?"

We will be learning about seaside towns and coastlines all over the world- understanding how they are formed and constantly evolve due to erosion. We will also be learning about animals including humans, understanding our muscles, skeletal and digestive systems. From here we will move onto the basic needs for survival in animals, identifying and clasifying animals into the different groups such as birds, reptiles, fish and mammals etc. We will research and discover the different habitats, food chains and how plastic in the ocean affects us on land too! We will also learn about the incredible story of Grace Darling and the work of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).

Some of the key questions are:

  • How and why are our coastlines changing?
  • How do animals survive?
  • How can we make a difference to protect our coastlines?

Summer Term 2022 Powerful Oceans Curriculum Letter

Year 2 Powerful Oceans Knowledge Organiser

Science- The last two days we have been testing the strength of different magnets with some spectacular results!

Religious Education- Islam. The children learnt about one of the 5 pillars of Islam- Zakah. This is where Muslims donate money each month. Each group was given £10 and had to choose how much to give and who to- the poor, animal rescue, schools or the ill. This generated great teamwork and some insightful opinions!

Using Querns- As we are currently learning how Paleolithic Hunter Gatherers changed into Neolithic Farmers we explored one of the tools that they used- the quern. The children chose their own rubbing stone and experimented with different techniques to grind cornflakes as the farmers would have ground wheat into flour

Flint Knapping- The Falcons learnt how Stone Age people would make their spear heads out of flint in a process called knapping, so we did the same with soap!
