Welcome to The Bluebirds!

Reception Class

Our topic this term is 'Polar Explorers'.

We are looking forward to learning all about the North and South Pole.  We will be observing similarities and differences about the world around us looking closely at the different climates. The children will be learning about the animals and whether they live in the Artic or the Antartic, how they survive and how they stay warm in the cold climates. The book we are going to focus on this term is 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. Please look at the Curriculum Overview to see all of the other learning opportunities the children will experience throughout the topic this term.

Our topic for this term is Polar Explorers, fortunately the children experienced the first snow fall for this year and had lots of fun enjoying this spell of cold weather!

Key Information

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) has it's own curriculum specifically designed for young children and supports their learning and healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development:

Communication and language

Physical development

Personal, social and emotional development

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. This is similar to the curriculum in primary and secondary schools, but it's suitable for very young children.  It is designed to be flexible so that staff can follow the individual needs and interests of our children and allows children to learn through immersion, exploration, being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and in our outdoor learning environment
