Spring Term 2019
This term our topic is Potions.
This term our main topic will be ‘Potions’! It is certainly going to engage all young scientists as we mix some powerful and explosive potions. Will they be magical, poisonous or volatile?
Through the mixing and creating of different potions, the children will develop their understanding of sates of matter and learn about the properties of them. During our experimentation, we’ll learn that temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is and that it increases or decreases due to heat being transferred to or away from the object. There will be a cross curricular link with Maths as they use their data to create line graphs and try to interpret the changes that occur. We’ll find out more about the changes from one state to another and learn about evaporation and condensation.
Our ‘Potions’ topic will get us looking at the labelling on bottles and the use of persuasive language to make use buy things we don’t really need. We’ll also take a look at the writing of some of our own spells.
For more information about our topic see the Spring Term Overview below.
There are lots of other exciting events happening this term, such as our traditional pancake races, Internet Safety Day and World Book Day.
Please make sure your child has their P.E.kit in school everyday. This term the children will be going swimming every Tuesday and doing hockey with a coach every Thursday. If the weather is good we will do Hockey outside, so please make sure your child has a tracksuit to help them keep warm.
Homework will be set on Friday and must be in by Wednesday morning please. In addition to the homework, we would like your child to practise their reading and spellings at home everyday. When you hear them read please sign their reading record. Regular reading at home will help your child become more fluent and confident which will help them in all areas of the curriculum. Every Monday children will have new spellings to practise and learn at home. They will be tested on the spellings on Friday morning. Please encourage your child to learn their spellings as it will help them become more confident with their writing.
