Autumn Term 2018
This term our topic is Road Trip USA.
Buckle up, sunglasses on – we’re going on a road trip across the good old USA!
Flying from London Gatwick, and landing at JFK airport New York, it’s time to explore the sights and sounds of the Big Apple. Use your map skills to navigate around some of its most famous landmarks and send a postcard home.
Meet the Iroquois tribe; Native Americans with amazing customs and traditions.
It’s going to be a long ride, so put the roof down and let the wind blow through your hair – we’re off!
Many subjects will be taught through this project including Geography and Design and Technology.
Our science this term will be taught by Mrs Wicks who will be teaching the class about animals and their habitats. We have planned a trip to Great Yorkshire Wildlife Park so we can meet some real animals. After half term the children will learn all about electricity and how to make circuits.
The Year 3 children will begin to learn French. We will start with simple phrases that can be used when we greet each other. Try to encourage them to use the words and phrases we learn at home so they become more confident to speak the language.
For more information about our topic see the Autumn Term Overview below.
There are lots of other exciting events happening this term, such as the Harvest, Christmas Fair and the Christmas Service.
Please make sure your child has their P.E.kit in school everyday. From September to October the children will be doing Dance with a special coach in the hall every Wednesday and on Friday they will be doing PE in the in the hall.
Homework will be set on Friday and must be in by Wednesday morning please. In addition to the homework, we would like your child to practise their reading and spellings at home everyday. When you hear them read please sign their reading record. Regular reading at home will help your child become more fluent and confident which will help them in all areas of the curriculum. Every Monday children will have new spellings to practise and learn at home. They will be tested on the spellings on Friday morning. Please encourage your child to learn their spellings as it will help them become more confident with their writing.
